Pa'Chapa (Riverside, CA)
2023-2024
My research on Pa'chapa focuses on the imbalance between the preservation of Anglo narratives and the erasure of Indigenous histories surrounding Mt. Rubidoux and its sacred sites, such as Spring Rancheria. While Riverside has celebrated its colonial past, particularly through figures like Frank A. Miller, the stories of the Luiseño, Cahuilla, Gabrielino, and Serrano tribes have been marginalized. I explore how Anglo-centric preservation policies have overshadowed Native perspectives and advocate for a shift towards community-driven efforts that prioritize Indigenous voices and the protection of their cultural landscapes.
Olvera St. Preservation Planning Project
2024
In accordance with USC's Fundamentals of Place-keeping curriculum, I led a personal research initiative focused on Olvera Street in Los Angeles, California. This project involved interviewing current vendors at the placita, conducting in-depth research on the history and origins of the site, and identifying both issues and consistencies that either contribute to or hinder the preservation and continued existence of this significant cultural landmark.
1518 Garmarcy Documentation
2024
While taking Katie E. Horak's (Principle at Architectural Resources Group) Documentation course at USC, I conducted site identification, documentation, and completed eligibility documentation for an unregistered site in Los Angeles.
USC Courtyard Measured Drawing
2024
These drawings represent a measured study of a courtyard wall in the USC Roski School of Art and Design. Working collaboratively with a team, we meticulously measured the wall’s dimensions on-site using traditional tools and techniques. The process involved precise data collection and scaling the measurements down to create an accurate and proportional representation of the structure. This exercise honed my technical drawing skills, teamwork, and attention to architectural details, emphasizing the importance of documentation in heritage conservation and architectural studies.
